10x Each!

Going back to elementary school. I'm going to do 10x each as I learn new Italian words. I hated doing it when I was younger, but thinking about it I believe that it's a pretty good way to learn! This time though, I won't do the thing where I would write one letter at a time on each line... "jog", 10-J's 10-O's. 10-G's...

Music: Beyonce, Ring the Alarm... dude, she's SO fired up! It's kind of entertaining... don't screw w/her, lol!

Poor Truck, Idiot thief

So, Dave's got a truck... I think it's cool, but it's not exactly the newest car on the road. He has an '88 White Toyota Pick-up. No rust, the seats aren't torn up. Anyways, a previous owner replaced the original stereo that came w/the truck with a shitty one. This thing is a trip! First off, it can't hold a radio station to save it's life. You get it & a second later it's all static or Spanish talk/music. Also, even if you're crazy lucky & get a station, the volume is hyperactive. It only works at a few places when turning the knob, but even then it'll go out & you're in complete silence & all of a sudden it's on again. Next thing, it has a tape player which you can't use because the eject button on the stereo is broken. It's pushed all the way in so there's a hole next to where you insert the tape. Finally, a few weeks ago the stereo shit out all together. The power wouldn't even turn on!

Now, here's the kicker. Some dumb ass broke into Dave's truck yesterday & stole it! WTF does anyone want w/a tape player now a days!?!? What an idiot!! LOL. That guy is going to get his ass beat by someone for selling them a broke-ass stereo!! Also, the guy kind of did Dave a favor because he was thinking that the thing may have been draining the battery & he was meaning to take it out himself.

Our only set back is that the guy got away w/Dave's cell phone too cause it was in the truck. Not that big of a deal either. The T-mobile phone was a piece of crap anyway & it's only going to cost $20 to replace the chip. He'll just use his crappy back up phone.

It was a sucky & scary thing to happen, but they didn't break anything in the process... so that's good! It's just so hard to understand the thief's mentality. With all of the sweet ass cars all around, they picked Dave's truck!?!? I guess the benefit of older cars is that they don't have car alarms on them. Anyway, the guy is an idiot just the same!

As reported at NBC5.com

London. "The number of rats in the city has grown 20 percent in less than six years. The average person is never more than 10 feet away from one... Nearly 15 percent of Londoners throw their fast food wrappers into the street, officials said."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chicago. "Chicago officials plan a series of evacuation drills in downtown buildings, hoping to ready tenants for possible emergencies in the future." (Watch Video)
I'm not sure how Chicagoans are reacting to this, but it seems like an OK idea & a good effort. I'm sure that there will be the usual complaining, but it's about time cities stepped up & spent time preparing for disaster. Hopefully the citizens will take it seriously!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ohio: A kitten is born with 2 heads! "The kitten has two mouths that meow in unison, two noses and four eyes." (Watch Video)

I really hope that it is not in any pain & is healthy!

Lastly (my Favorite). Linked to Forbes.com from NBC5.com...

Michael Noer writes, "Guys: a word of advice. Marry pretty women or ugly ones. Short ones or tall ones. Blondes or brunettes. Just, whatever you do, don't marry a woman with a career.... professional women are more likely to get divorced, more likely to cheat and less likely to have children. And if they do have kids, they are more likely to be unhappy about it. A recent study in Social Forces, a research journal, found that women--even those with a "feminist" outlook--are happier when their husband is the primary breadwinner...

...to put it bluntly, the more successful she is, the more likely she is to grow dissatisfied with you."

~"Do you agree that people have better marriages if the wife does not have a career outside the home?" As of 5:20 PM 65% of NBC5 readers answere 'No'

You can read the Forbes artical for yourself here! (Linked from NBC5.com here)

It's a really bold article to write & publish and it's stirring up a lot of trouble. And as of right now I'm stuck at a point where I don't want this to be true... but are the odds actually higher? Scary if it is because it seems like women are making really good progress in this world & people are already unhappy enough as it is!

Regardless... To all of you successful Chicas, YOU GO GIRLS!!

That's it... I'm out!

Weekend Highlights

I started to write & breakdown what I did this weekend by the day... but I think I'll write a highlighted edition.

~ As the previous post states, the sound booth is almost done! It was a great accomplishment!

~ I heard from a 'long lost friend' who was very special to me & went MIA for a few years... hearing from her & knowing that she's doing great really made my weekend! (I missed you!)

~ Went to a the baby shower of Dave's boss Saturday evening (yeah, an evening baby shower... I thought it was strange too). It was cute. We got out of the house, socialized & played darts. I got a few bulls-eyes! All & all a good evening.

~ Attended to my B-of a computer. She kept freezing after 5-15 minutes of playing WoW. We tried a bunch of things: removing my old wireless card, cleaning out my hard-drive, opening up the case to blow air into it (in case it was overheating), lowered my graphic settings, defragment-ed my c-drive, & finally unintstalled-reinstalled WoW... I think the last one is what did it. I wish we would've tried that sooner, it probably would've relieved the stress sooner... hopefully that's it & my computer is healthy again. She's at least 4 years old & getting a new computer is an expense I haven't planned for so I'm going to push for at least another year

~ Discovered the restaurant Baby Blues BBQ (thanks to Dave). It was actually one of the most interesting places that we've been to since we've moved to Santa Monica & it's right down the street from us! I was hesitant at first cause it looked like a cheap hole in the wall, but it turned out to be really cool w/quality food. It reminded me of being in New Orleans :)

~ I bought & downloaded the audiobook, Rush Hour Italian (if you click on the link you can hear a sample of it at Audible.com) So far it's been pretty cool. There is this story line of a guy who meets a girl who agrees to teach him Italian. They sing songs, "Tanto piacere... it's nice to meet you. Piachere mio... it's nice to meet you too!" It seems like I could actually learn beginner level & conversational Italian from this!

~ Why learn Italian you might ask? I have always wanted to visit Italy. About 2 1/2 years ago Dave said to me, "If in 5 years you still haven't been to Italy we're going to pack up & just go!" I know that in reality you can't always just "pack up and go" (though it is kind of exciting). If you don't have the $$, then you don't have the $$... but with that in mind, I realized that I should be able to afford to go sometime in the next year as long as I plan ahead. I started researching the trip yesterday and over & over again it was stated, "learn some basic Italian before you go." So, I think that starting now is probably a good idea. Hopefully I'll stick with it. At least it won't be like Spanish where learning it would be a good career move... that form of "motivation" actually demotivates me :-P

So, I think that's it for my weekend. Tonight we have our last game of the season at 6:15. Yea for early games! I'm looking forward to it too cause the team is going to go out for a bit afterwards! Hopefully I'll last until then. I can't believe how tired I am! It sucks! At least my 3 day weekend didn't!

(I've definitely got a "case of the Mondays!!")

Sound Booth

I'm happy to announce that the sound booth is coming along nicely & almost running! It didn't take too long for us to get most of it up. There is a small section that isn't sealed, but we have to wait until I take a wooden beam/board into work & cut it down a bit. After we seal that back corner we'll use the left overs to cover some more of the walls. Then there will only be about a foot of uncovered wall, which "experts" say should be OK.

We tested it out last night & Dave said that it sounds really good! Woohoo! Below is a pic of the final look. You can check out more pics of the building process on JessicaPeak.com

What's Different?

Can find what is different between these two pictures?

Tuesday:
Today:

(these are pics not notes... the previous post still applies :-P)

Final Note of the Day

If you are going to eat at your desk, take small bites!

LA & the 405

Have you ever had one of those 'things' where everyday you say to yourself, "Today I'm going to ...." Well, just now I finally did one of my ...'s. It may seem obsessive, out there, ridiculous, or not worth looking into for many of you, but for me this bothers me everyday!

OK, I take the 405 south to work everyday. Commonly known as the worst highway (freeway) in LA. Luckily I'm usually on the better side of it. Well, people in LA are CONSTANTLY swerving out of their lane despite the fact that each lane has these huge light strips that are loud & tear up your tires... Anyways, eventually I realized that EVERY SINGLE DAY while going south on the 405 about 1/4 mile before the La Tijera exit someone swerves into my lane. Now, I have to admit, there have been a few instances where I've come close too, but I make sure to pay attention & stay in my lane or to keep out of the way of the swervers.

I wanted to view this section of the highway on Google Earth (below). This 'spot' is in a curve. Now, a curve shouldn't be a problem (though it is here), I think the problem is that the curve is not smooth or consistent. To stay in your lane while going between these two points : start off going straight, begin turning the wheel for the the curve, suddenly have to straighten out your wheel a bit because you're turning too sharply, then turn your wheel back to the initial curve position to continue through the curve, then slowly straighten out. Even writing this it sounds extreme, but everyday without fail SOMEONE goes out of their lane!

I find this extremely frustrating & dangerous. People should stay in their lane, but in reality most of them aren't paying super close attention to what they're doing. It's really a situation where you have to be a truly defensive driver because just paying attention & staying in your lane has a good chance of getting you into an accident.

I'm not sure how to find the geometry of the road, what the regulations are, how many accidents occur at this spot, etc... currently I'm not exactly concerned enough to do anything about it... ranting has already calmed me down a bit.

So, to anyone who drives through here I urge you to be carefut, stay alert and DON'T HIT ME!

Storms

From what I hear there was a wild storm in Chicago this morning... I MISS THUNDERSTORMS!!!

I miss lightning!
I miss heavy rain!
I miss thunder that makes you jump!

It hasn't rained here in weeks. Just sunshine & sometimes clouds. That's it. It's nice & all... but I still miss the occasional storm! It adds a bit of excitement to the day.

Still though, I really hated getting to class soaking wet because in Chicago the rain doesn't fall down... oh no... no matter what direction you're walking it always seems to be coming at your face horizontally. So by the time you get to your destination your shoulders may be slightly dry, but you're soaked from the waist down. Wet jeans suck!

... I still miss it!

JeffsWeather.com has a great pic of the Sears Tower & Lightning!

How to make a Bra Purse

From WikiHow.com....

It seems a bit odd... but kind of cute & creative.

It's pretty easy, buy the bra, cut it up, glue it together, add your decorative touch by gluing/stitching stuff on it & walah... you've got your self a ah-hem... purse!

For more detailed instructions go here!

Random Talk

So, I'm still really sore from my workout on Sunday. It's kind of pathetic that it's this bad. It's just a sign that I've been lazy because the video that I worked out to is one that I used to do back in Chicago daily. I'm somewhat pissed off about that... oohh, maybe that'll keep me from sitting down right when I get home, like I don't do enough sitting all day when I'm at work or when I'm driving in my car. I'm going to get a bus driver's ass if I'm not careful :-P

I'm stupidly tired ('stupidly', a term borrowed from an old friend). I waited until after 1:30 am on Sunday to go to bed & I didn't go to bed last night until after 12:30... my alarm goes off at 7:00. I snoozed 5 times this morning... poor Dave. I really should either go to bed earlier or just set my alarm for later. Just cause I have to get up doesn't mean he should be tortured every 5 minutes for 30 minutes hearing Justin Timberlake singing "I'm Bringing Sexy Back" (my new ringtone). *To the left is picture 509 of Jessica sleeping. This is how Dave found me in bed. I was trying to read an article in Time when the lights got too bright... instead of being reading material, it became a shade. Z-Z-Z-Z-Z :)

More on silly me. I bought black nail polish the other day & started painting my nails on Saturday. I began w/my big toe on my right foot. Then I thought that maybe the black would stain my nail... so I decided to put down a clear basecoat first. So I did that to all of my fingers & toes. THEN I painted my nails. Well, on Saturday night Dave asks, "what the hell is wrong w/your foot?" I forgot to finish painting my other nails! So I have 9 toes w/clear polish & 1 toe with black polish. Telling this story is digging the Jessica's an idiot hole even deeper, but I thought it was too funny to care. Yeah, & I've already gotten the "what do you think it is, Halloween?" comment for my nails... whatever! :-P

I brought my lunch today. An attempt to save money & eat healthier. A good effort, but I won't be eating it this afternoon. Instead because the president called a surprise company meeting for Wednesday, my department is having a shotgun meeting at lunch today. I guess I'll have to eat my turkey sandwich (that my sweet Dave made me!) for dinner. The free food part is cool & all... I just keep feeling like eating out is going to burn a hole in my stomach from all of the crap they put in it to make it "taste good." Get a salad? As a side, definitely. As the meal, No. I NEVER feel satisfied afterwards. Although, we did find a moth in our salad the last time I was out to eat w/the company (Friday). Maybe that's the secret. Hidden protein... and I was always ordering chicken!

I would like to post a message to all of you jackasses out there that follow 2 feet behind the car in front of you even when you're traveling at 80 mph! Have you ever taken Physics. You're already such a dumb ass that you probably haven't. & Your actions already lead me to believe that you are lacking common sense too so I'll spell it out for you. Back the F*&^ OFF! You're going to get in an accident and hurt someone else (fyi: we don't care about you, you're the one that's going to cause the traffic jam). Oh & additionally... let's say the person in front of you slams on their breaks & for whatever reason you're able to stop in time, new tires maybe?? Don't be surprised when you get rear ended. Yeah yeah, the person behind you should've been watching... THEY were probably following too closely also, I mean, we're in California for god's sake... regardless, you're an idiot!

Anyways, if by now you're thinking that I'm having a crappy morning, I'm not. I'm actually in a pretty positive mood... no sarcasm attached, well maybe a little, it is me! I'm actually doing pretty good as long as I don't walk. The sun is shining, there's a blue jay out my window, and I've got a 'plan'... hehehe!

Wow, and as an additional surprise I got a UPS Express package from my Dad, woohoo... containing the Prudential magnet clips (above) that I requested because they're AWESOME! Additionally I received PRESENTS!! YEA! I LOVE presents!!! All from Playa Del Carmen, a t-shirt, a really cute bracelet and a beautiful black & white sarong with beads on the fringes. (pattern shown). Thanks DAD!

Oh & last night at volleyball, we actually didn't get spanked!! Which was awesome. How did we pull that off you ask? The other team didn't show up! A win for us! Crap, this probably means that we'll be in the "play offs" again. Oh well.
GO TEAM DIGGIT!

Finally, I think I'll close with saying that there are dead rats in the atrium of our building. A really cool guy that works here LOVES reptiles, so the rats are to feed some of his animals. He likes rats so he doesn't have the heart to watch his animals eat live bait if it's unnecessary. It's sad both ways. Rats being raised to be eaten... Anyways, I thought it was interesting, an engineering company that has a box of dead rats down the hall. I forgot to mention, that he was out of town yesterday so they sat there overnight... They're in a cooler, but I'm not sure how long that'll work before they start to stink up the building. Eh, the company next to ours does chemical research so they're always mixing shit that smells like rotten eggs... we'll just have a rotten egg rotting carcass smell in about 2 days if we're lucky!

OK, this is ridiculously long & I've got a ton of nothing to do so I better get on that. Over & Out!

'Little'-Leaguers

The man behind these two little-leaguers is Aaron Durley. Strange as it sounds, he is actually a little-leaguer himself!

"The 13-year-old first baseman for Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, stands an imposing 6-foot-8 and weighs 256 pounds." -SI.com

His team made it to the Little League World Series and he has become somewhat of a spetical, so Sports Illustrated did a little article on him. They called him "Little Big Man."

I start to feel kind of bad for him because he stands out so much & at that young age, he might be a little self conscious, but the team seems to be extremely unique as a whole...

"The team has a peculiar baseball superstition -- the players dye their hair blond for the World Series."

"Dhahran pitcher and outfielder Michael Knight is 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. Five-foot-8, 226-pound, third baseman Andrew Holden..." They've got a pretty tall team even w/o him!

To read the full article go here!

My Weekend at a Glance

Friday:
- Talked to Nate, finally!
- Tom came over which means we watched BUFFY & ANGEL! We finished season 1 of Angel & season 3 (I think) of Buffy & got some great Chinese food.
- After Tom left I did some PvP-ing in WoW then hit the hay!

Saturday:
- Considered going to the beach, but upper 60's was a bit too chilly for me.
- Updated my jessicapeak.com homepage and posted some pics (WoW screenshots). Oh & very soon I will be putting up coppies of the Christmas Eve yearly picture that me, Jo, Jon & Dave take at my Aunt Letha's house. Below is the very first picture (2000) and the one from this past Christmas (2005). We're at 6 years, holding strong!

- Spent some time w/Dave.
- Played WoW.
- Really, the day was pretty uneventful.

Sunday:
- Went to the infamous Norm's with Dave for a quick breakfast before he met with one of our neighbors regarding his demo.
- Went to the beach... I was only able to stay an hour because it got kind of chilly @ 3:00. :(
- Chatted w/my mom for a while.
- Worked out when I got home… I was going to take a shower, but I hate showering then doing laundry. Afterwards, I just end up feeling dirty again.
- We did laundry, UG. I HATE doing laundry! We walk across the street, each w/a big bag of clothes. Put it in the wash. Walk home. Walk back to put everything in the dryer. Walk home. Walk back & either fold the clothes there or fold the clothes at home. Now, it may seem kind of ridiculous, all of the back & forth. But I HATE sitting in a laundry mat & the walk is good for us. We don't do it enough :)
- Took a shower... Finally!
- With minimal resistance from Dave we did the last errand of the weekend, grocery shopping. I always feel like we spend a lot & I wonder if groceries here are more or less expensive than Chicago, but it's hard to tell. We go shopping maybe once every other week... which really isn't enough if you want to eat healthy because veggies & fruit are long gone by the time we go again. So, we check out anywhere between $150-190. ($190 if I get bathroom or girlie supplies). Is $300-400/month a lot for 2 people?
- I ended the day w/more PvP-ing.
- Went to bed Really late!

All & all the weekend was pretty good. & despite getting not enough sleep, I feel pretty awake today. Let’s see how I’m feeling tonight at our 7:30 volleyball game… yes, nothing’s changed, I still HATE 7:30 games. Oh well, GO TEAM DIGGIT!… yeah, you wish your team had a name that wasn’t lame too!

How Much Have You Changed in 10 Years?

You've Changed 72% in 10 Years

Compared to who you were ten years ago, you've changed a great deal.
In fact, you're probably in a completely different phase of your life - and very happy about it!

I think that is mostly attributed to my situation & place in life rather than the mental side of ME... fun quiz anyway :)

Too Many Z's

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

6:30 pm: Extremely tired & decided to take a 30 min nap.
7:00 pm: Alarm sounded, I turned it off & continued sleeping.
12:00 am: Looked at the clock. Saw that it was MIDNIGHT (!) & fell back asleep.
6:00 am: Realized that it was 6 in the morning & I hadn't taken my medicine. Dave brought me my medicine & my phone, which would go off to wake me up for work in 1 hour. I also had the thought that it would be really cool if he & I went to get breakfast. The restaurant down the street has an awesome early bird special...
7:00 am: My alarm went off... I realize that after I had my bright idea that I immediately fell asleep.
7:10 am: After snoozing 2x I finally got out of bed & started getting ready for work. When I saw Dave he says, "Congrats, you just slept 12 1/2 hrs!"

Jump In My Car!

I have a lot of clips from YouTube.com on here right now, but I couldn't resist posting this one too. While watching videos on Launch.com I found out that David Hasselhoff made a music video; Jump In My Car!! I may be a bit "behind," but I found this HILARIOUS... he's 54 & the girls are what, 17? It TOTALLY reminds me of Rex Manning in the movie Empire Records. He was the OLD singer guy trying to be "cool."

The video is pretty amusing. The "graphics" and "special-effects" are... um... impressive (lol).
Be prepared for a lot of eyebrow raises & eye-rolls! :-P Enjoy!

*Poor Guy!*

Avenue Q and WoW

I'm not sure if you have to play World of Warcraft to find this video amusing, but I LOVE it!

The video is of characters from the game making gestures that are cut to go with the song, The Internet Is For Porn from the broadway musical Avenue Q.

South Park on ADD

lol

New View

When I rearranged our bedroom to make room for the wardrobe I put our bed against a different wall. Well, when I woke up on Sunday & looked out the window, this is what I saw. Palm trees w/flowers... That's the Santa Monica I like!

It was a very peaceful moment
(despite the noise from the cars & motorcycles driving by).

The Story of My Morning

Positive View...(Reality):

- I had the chance to be creative in what I wore today & got the opportunity to spend some extra time in my beloved home... (Since I didn't do the laundry last weekend I have next to NOTHING left to wear. So it took FOREVER to find something presentable, which ended up making me leave late. On top of that our place is a mess which is annoying in general.)

- My car informed me that she was thirsty so I took a slight detour to make her happy... (Like I wasn't late enough, I noticed that the gas light was on & the line was right on empty! So I had to take the first exit I saw to fill up because I had another 18 miles to drive before I got to work & I definitely don't want to be the bastard who ran out of gas on the highway)

- I stopped at a vintage gas station, which gave me the opportunity to meet the unique attendant inside... (The place was SO ghetto & shitty that you couldn't 'pay at the pump,' so I had to go inside & deal w/the ignorant employee who wouldn't stop yelling at a co-worker)

- After filling up I had to get back on the highway & thanks to the unique ways of that city, I was able to explore new parts of LA... (There wasn't an entrance to get back onto the highway from where I got off, so I had to drive south on the side streets (delaying me even more) through this dirty ghetto until I finally found an entrance to the highway.)

- In summary this morning was quite an adventure!...
(In summary, this morning was an annoying bitch full of detours & now I'm going to have to stay later @ work = MORE traffic!)

The End... (GGGRRR!)

Busy Weekend

Saturday & Sunday were mainly devoted to making over our bedroom-closet-storage situation. Saturday started off with the trip to Ikea. Dave said it right, "Going to Ikea is an Experience." I've been there before, but everytime I can't believe how big it is. It looks like a mix between a warehouse & Discovery Zone*.

Despite its gargantuaness (new word), we got most of what we needed & a few things we didn't know we 'needed' until we got in there :-P I got an awesome wardrobe for my clothes (pictured), an ironing board, coffee mugs, some other little things. We also got the table, chair, light and carpet for the sound booth. We had a pretty successful trip except for the headache that I left with... which SUCKED!

I have a lot of my mom's traits, but shopping is not one that I picked up. She has this great ability to run errands all day if necessary. NOT me! If I'm out of the house for a really extended amount of time I end up getting tired & cranky... especially if I'm shopping. I've got about 45 min to an hour in me, then I'm done!

In the long run it's probably a good thing because 1. I really like buying new things and 2. I'm bad at waiting to find the "better deal." I want to walk at a city pace, through the store, quickly grab what I want, glance to see if there's anything else I want/need & check out. I don't want to be bothered by sales people, but I also don't want to have to go looking for one. I don't want to wait for other people to move so that I can see what I'm looking for. I don't want to wait in line... It's not that I think I'm better than anyone or that I should get to go in front, I'm just ridiculously impatient & don't want to wait. What can I say, that's me :)

Well, from the time that I recovered from Ikea until Sunday night I spent the majority of my time assembling our purchases and re-arranging the bedroom & finding places for all of our stuff. Sprinkled in there was some WoW playing & movies. I finally saw Cinderella Man. I enjoyed the story a lot and it had great acting, but boxing got a little too stressful to watch for me. So, during long boxing matches I'd leave the room & Dave called me back at the end. The parts that I actually watched were good & I thought that Russell Crowe did a great job, as usual. However, I think I would've rather seen someone else play his wife other than Renée Zellweger. She did a good job, but I think it could have been more moving.

I don't really have much planned for the rest of the week besides cleaning up the rest of the house, laundry & grocery shopping. Hopefully the acoustic foam wil be in by Friday so that we can hang it this weekend. So Exciting! :)

Yes, yet again a laid back mindless entry... don't worry, the thought provoking side of me hasn't died... it's just tired :)

1095 Pics

OK, I was going to leave today w/that last quiz thing, but I came across this video. Supposedly, this girl took a picture of herself everyday for 3 years & put it together in a video. Check it out, I think it's really cool & creative.

I would really like to do something like that of myself or children, but I'd probably forget & lose interest...

What Element Are You?

Your Element is Water

Your power colors: blue and aqua

Your energy: deep

Your season: winter

Like the ocean, you evoke deep feelings and passion.
You have an emotional, sensitive, and spiritual soul.
A bit mysterious, you tend to be quiet when you are working out a problem.
You need your alone time, so that you can think and dream.

"Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend. "
-Bruce Lee, The Lost Interview

Are You High Maintenance?

You Are Medium Maintenance

You aren't as hard to deal with as some girls
But you aren't the most laid back chick either
You're easy to deal with 90% of the time, but watch out for that 10%!
If the guy you are with has good intentions, then calm down a little
But if he's really screwing up, don't waste your breath - move on :-)

Are You a Diva?

You're Part Diva

You know that a girl's gotta work it to get her way in the world.
And while you aren't about to throw a tantrum at every turn...
You do amp up the drama when you know you need it.
You mix charm, honesty, and kindness to get ahead.
*I'm bored.... sigh*

Surprise

So, yesterday on the way home from volleyball I called my mom to chat. When I got home we were still talking away and when I looked at my desk...

Me, "Mom, there's a present on my desk!!"
Mom, "Who is it from?"
Me, "Dave...?"
Mom, "Why? Is it your anniversary?"
Me, "No, we don't have one..."

So, I hung up w/her and opened it in front of him. Dave bought me the book Blink. I checked it out from the library probably 2-3 months ago. Since it was a new release I could only keep it for 2 weeks & I couldn't renew it. Well, I wasn't able to finish it before I had to take it back & I was really enjoying it. So, the gift is Perfect!!

Why did I get the present? It's not a holiday or my birthday (or our anniversary). He said, "I was having a bad day and I thought it would cheer me up to see you smile." I felt SO special! It worked out really well too because I just so happened to be having a not-so-great day. I'm really lucky to have him!

So, I think today should be pretty good. If anything starts to get to me I'll just think back to yesterday... :)

Last night Dave also told me how he almost got hit by this bitch driving a BMW by CSU. From what I understand he was going to his truck that was parked on the street when the girl started driving towards him. He had to jump into his truck bed to avoid getting hit. He said she was inches from his car. What a piece of royal shit! Upperclass inconsiderate bitch! Anyways, he didn't get hit so everything's good... & I got a present... woohoo!! :)

Weekend/Monday Recap

This weekend...
Saturday:
~ The Big Tree Incident (below).
~ Went to 2 [used to be cool] thrift stores. Now they're just dirty & junky looking. :(
~ I wanted the dishes done by the end of the day. So, I made a deal w/Dave in the morning; either I would do the dishes OR He does the dishes & I would cook a tasty dinner... he went w/#2. So, we had chicken, mashed potatos & stuffing for dinner and I had a kitchen full of clean dishes. It worked out well for everyone!
~ We also played WW for a good portion of the day!

Sunday:
~ Picked up some of the apt.
~ Played WW
~ Went to get breakfast at Norm's... our weekly outing!
~ Played more WW.

Today:
~ Work isn't too bad today. Seeing as I don't have any projects to work on, I'm taking advantage of my role as "The Safety Girl." Adding to the DRI Safety Manual, evacuation plans, emergency lighting, etc... Today I'm working w/Visio (which I enjoy!).

~ Tonight we have a volleyball game at 7:30... I hate the games that are at 7:30. It's unreasonable for me to drive home after work cause I'll arrive & have to turn right back around & fight traffic to get to v-ball (we play very close to my work). So I end up having to be at the office late (BORING!). I think I'm going to spend my extra 1 1/2 hrs here tonight working so that I can leave early on Friday!

Recently I've been wondering a lot about what my future holds... something is missing & I hope I find it soon!

Big Morning, Big Tree

This morning our buzzer rang at 12:30 and we were very surprised to see a cop at our door.
Cop Lady, "Are you David McKinnley." (what's with that... why do they think he has a 'L' in his name!?).
Dave, "Yes."
Cop Lady, "Do you own a white Toyota pick-up truck?"
Dave, "Yes."
Cop Lady, "We need you to move your truck, a big branch feel earlier and the trimmers need the space that you're in. Don't worry, your car wasn't hit."

I think "huge" was an understatement. And it wasn't a "branch," but an entire chunk of tree with a ton of branches. About 1/5 of the tree snapped and hit the ground a few feet from Dave's truck. No one around was sure of the cause and as far as I know no one was injured. Here are some pics of our morning...

This is what I saw as I walked towards the street in the alley

Here is a view from the other side.

Pictures of Dave, his truck, and the mess.

The Kelly Clarkson Concert Rocked!

The concert was really cool and Kelly sounded amazing! I loved that she went for a lot of the high notes which I think a good amount of artists avoid when performing live. It was awesome getting to experiencing her full singing abilities in person. I was VERY impressed and I'm SO glad that I went even though I didn't get to sleep until after 1 am... and I have to work an extra 2 hours today to make up for yesterday, still Totally worth it! Below is a slide show of some pictures that Ana took of the concert and of us hanging out before it.

Oh, & I booked a room at the Hilton where the HFES Conference will be in San Francisco! ($195 + tax/night... Damn!!... yea for DRI!)

Good Times

Good things are happinging all around.

1. Dave's birthday went really well. We had a lot of fun spending time together. It's hard to believe that he's 25. We're getting 'old' but we're still young at heart... young hearts & complex minds. That's us!

2. Tonight is the Kelly Clarkson Concert, woohoo! I'm SO excited!! I love her & I haven't been to a concert in forever. We're in the lawn, but I'm sure her voice will reach us :) AND before the concert we're going to The Cheesecake Factory... which I've never been to! And all of this means that once again, I'll be leaving early (darn). It's really a good thing that all of these things are coming up now since we're so slow because come October/November things are going to get really busy here.

Here is my favorite Kelly Clarkson American Idol Performance:

3. We had a meeting today about how in October, DRI is sending me & 2 other girls to The Annual Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Conference in San Francisco! I'm really excited about the conference & I'll get to see San Francisco for the first time! I'm thinking about figuring out a way to stay an extra day or two after the conference to really explore the city! I just hope that we don't get super busy here where I would have to cancel the trip. We'll see... fingers crossed!
