LA & the 405

Have you ever had one of those 'things' where everyday you say to yourself, "Today I'm going to ...." Well, just now I finally did one of my ...'s. It may seem obsessive, out there, ridiculous, or not worth looking into for many of you, but for me this bothers me everyday!

OK, I take the 405 south to work everyday. Commonly known as the worst highway (freeway) in LA. Luckily I'm usually on the better side of it. Well, people in LA are CONSTANTLY swerving out of their lane despite the fact that each lane has these huge light strips that are loud & tear up your tires... Anyways, eventually I realized that EVERY SINGLE DAY while going south on the 405 about 1/4 mile before the La Tijera exit someone swerves into my lane. Now, I have to admit, there have been a few instances where I've come close too, but I make sure to pay attention & stay in my lane or to keep out of the way of the swervers.

I wanted to view this section of the highway on Google Earth (below). This 'spot' is in a curve. Now, a curve shouldn't be a problem (though it is here), I think the problem is that the curve is not smooth or consistent. To stay in your lane while going between these two points : start off going straight, begin turning the wheel for the the curve, suddenly have to straighten out your wheel a bit because you're turning too sharply, then turn your wheel back to the initial curve position to continue through the curve, then slowly straighten out. Even writing this it sounds extreme, but everyday without fail SOMEONE goes out of their lane!

I find this extremely frustrating & dangerous. People should stay in their lane, but in reality most of them aren't paying super close attention to what they're doing. It's really a situation where you have to be a truly defensive driver because just paying attention & staying in your lane has a good chance of getting you into an accident.

I'm not sure how to find the geometry of the road, what the regulations are, how many accidents occur at this spot, etc... currently I'm not exactly concerned enough to do anything about it... ranting has already calmed me down a bit.

So, to anyone who drives through here I urge you to be carefut, stay alert and DON'T HIT ME!
