Getting home

When Dave and I finally got to Joanna's house on June 12th, I didn't think a day of traveling could ever be so long, but I was Wrong....

The dilema for how we would get to the train station was solved by calling Sauk Trail Taxi Cab. Now, this "Cab Co." is not like any ordinary cab co., nope. They sent a very large black men wearing grey sweat pants and a ratty t-shirt driving a broken down ass car where the back seat leaks so you can sit on only 1/2 of it. The doors in the back had holes in the panel so that you could see the wiring inside. The "meter" didn't get used, instead there was a cheap flat fee. Also, the car sounded like it had trouble driving and I don't think that it would've been capable going over 30 w/o breaking down. Now on to the driver, his ghetto-slang was SO thick and add to that a slight lisp, that Dave and I almost couldn't understand him ramble on about god knows what... this actor, that actress, his 30 year reunion... and mind you, this is only a 5 minute cab ride. In the end, I was thankful for the experience and for actually getting to the train station on time. South Suburbs, gotta love'em! The only thing I regret from that is that since my camera batteries were dead I couldn't get a pic. of the driver or the cab :-( GGRR!

The long day broken down:
9:45 - Wake up
10:30 - Sauk Trail Taxi Cab Driver arrives
11:00 - Metra picks us up from the Richton Park stop
12:00 - Metra arrives Downtown and we walk in the pouring rain over to the "L" 4-5 blocks away.
1:10 - Check in
1:15 - Check our bags
1:25 - Pass through security. Then we waited for over an hour to start boarding. There were crazy delays in O'hare due to the storms from that morning. We sat next to 2 women who were waiting to fly out to New Orleans and at that point their plane had been delayed at least 4 hours. A few minutes after finding that out a woman came over the loud speaker and said that the flight to San Francisco had been canceled! We're like, SHIT! But somehow, they really wanted to get us out to LA so we boarded pretty much ontime.
2:50 - On Board
5:05 - Landed (Gained 2 hours!)
5:20 - Found Luggage and caught a cab. I guess that if you start a cab ride from the airport there is an automatic $2.50 added onto your ride (ug!). Then since I had my car parked at DRI we had the guy take us down there. Yeah, smart thinkin' on my part, we landed dead in the middle of rush hour on a THURSDAY~arguably the worst traffic day. The cool thing though is I think we got the best cab driver in LA. We were in Torrance in maybe 30 min despite the fact that the 405 South was packed and we didn't even drive in the car pool lane. Cost: $36.00
6:10 - after checking out the office construction we headed home... which took a long time, plus we picked up some Thai food.
FINALLY sometime after 7:00 we're home!

I was SO exhausted and seeing as my office wasn't done yet, I got it cleared with my boss and took the day off. Starting this morning I'm on track to catch up on some sleep & chores around the house. I miss you Chicago

*I'm still working on putting the pics together for posting. Until then, here are a few...
